In this segment, I engaged directly with individuals through a variety of methods. I conducted extensive interviews, identified stakeholders, utilized online surveys on platforms like Reddit, and analyzed different media sources.
Focusing on the main identified SOCIAL problems (ocean literacy, and lack of access - pollution is covered in the ‘exploration’ section) I tailored the rest of my research to delve into the root causes and perceived solutions gleaned from these interactions.
IDENTIFIED PROBLEMS & BARRIERS:
Lack of access to water training & activities, due to cost, little representation, and stigmas around the activities
Low ocean literacy rates, leading to heightened numbers of water injuries, disconnect with ocean-based issues, and lack of empathy for pressing problems on the island
